Air Fryer Dinner Rolls

EASY Air Fryer Bread! The Softest Dinner Rolls!

This air fryer dinner rolls recipe makes soft, buttery, homemade dinner rolls which are an amazing accompaniment to any dish.

INGREDIENTS

(Makes 9 Dinner Rolls)

For the dough

280g all-purpose flour (2 cups)

½ tsp salt

200g milk (¾ cup + 2 tbsp)

2 teaspoons dried yeast (7g or 1 sachet)

45g butter, melted (3 tbsp)

For the egg wash

1 egg, beaten

1 tbsp milk

For when the rolls are done baking

2-3 tbsp Melted butter

INSTRUCTIONS

Make the dough

In your stand mixer add the flour and salt and roughly combine.

Pour the milk into a microwave safe glass and microwave on high for 30 seconds. The milk should be warm not hot. Add the yeast and stir to combine.

Combine the milk mixture with the flour mixture and using the dough hook attachment knead the dough, starting out on low-medium speed , for 2 minutes.

Increase the speed to high and knead for another 2 to 3 minutes, or until the dough pulls aways from the bowl.

Every flour is different, so if you need an extra teaspoon or two of flour if the dough looks too wet, or an extra teaspoon or two of milk if it looks too dry, don’t be afraid to add them. Make these additions one teaspoon at a time.

Turn the mixer down to low speed and add the melted butter. Increase to medium high and allow the butter to fully incorporate. This will take another 3-5 minutes.

Transfer the dough to a greased bowl, cover the bowl tighly with plastic wrap and allow the dough to rise for 2 hours.

Form the rolls

Once the dough has doubled in size, grease the air fryer basket well and dust with flour. Alternatively you can line the bottom of the basket with parchment paper (however the bottoms of the rolls won't brown).

Form nine round dough balls ( they should weigh around 55g or 1½ to 2 ounces each) and place in the basket. Cover the basket with plastic wrap and allow the rolls to rise again for at least another 45 minutes. I left mine to rise 1 hour.

Brush the rolls with the egg wash.

Baking the rolls in an air fryer

Bake the rolls at 150°C (300°F) for around 10 minutes (yes, things cook faster than you might expect in air fryers). Please note, these timings are based on my air fryer - air fryers vary, so your timings may be different.

Baking the rolls in an conventional oven

If you’d prefer to use a regular oven to bake the dinner rolls, preheat your oven to 160°C (330°F). Bake the dinner rolls for around 16 minutes.

Finish the rolls

As soon as the rolls come out of the a brush generously with melted butter. Wait 5 minutes for them to soften, and then enjoy the softest, fluffiest warm dinner rolls ever!

Alternatively you can brush the buns with garlic butter and make soft garlic bread! Place the butter in a microwave safe bowl, grate 1-2 cloves of garlic on top of the butter and microwave until melted. Brush the buns and enjoy!
