1 Minute Microwave Cinnamon Roll

1 Minute Microwave Cinnamon Roll Recipe

Emma Fontanella’s 1 Minute Microwave Cinnamon Roll

About My 1 Minute Microwave Cinnamon Roll

These 1 minute cinnamon rolls are delicious and fluffy. It’s important to note that the recipe is designed for making microwave cinnamon rolls, and these are meant to be served hot and fresh from the microwave. If you’re looking for traditional yeast-raised cinnamon rolls, check out my fluffiest ever cinnamon roll recipe.

These rolls are best made and eaten fresh. Once they cool down they will lose their fluffy texture. If you're making these just for yourself, I advise you to cook just one or two and store the remaining cinnamon rolls uncooked in a zip lock bag in the fridge. Then when you want a quick cinnamon roll hit, cook one in the microwave and serve it fresh.

Can I bake these in a regular oven?

Yes, for sure. While I designed this recipe as a microwave recipe, they will bake nicely in a regular oven.

Bake the rolls on a baking sheet in a preheated oven at 350°F (180°C) for between 10 and 15 minutes. They’re done when the dough has risen and the sugar has melted. Take them out of the oven as soon as they’re done, glaze them, and eat immediately while they’re soft and warm. Be careful not to overtake them or they will go hard.

INGREDIENTS

For the glaze

A little Milk, powdered sugar and vanilla extract.

You can also use my cream cheese glaze if you prefer (see my fluffiest ever cinnamon roll recipe)

For the cinnamon roll dough

1 cup (140g) self-raising flour OR all purpose flour + 1½ tsp baking powder + pinch of salt

¼ cup + ½ tbsp (70g) milk

3 tbsp (40g) butter, softened

For the filling

2 tbsp (30g) butter, melted

¼ cup (50g) brown sugar

½ tbsp ground cinnamon

½ tbsp corn starch

¼ tsp salt

INSTRUCTIONS

Make the glaze

In a small bowl combine a little milk, powdered sugar and vanilla extract to make a glaze of the consistency, sweetness and taste you like. Set aside.

Make the cinnamon roll dough

In a bowl roughly combine the flour and butter. Add the milk and mix with a spatula.

Bring the dough together using your hands. Don’t overwork the dough. As soon as it comes together, form it into a ball.

Roll out the dough on a floured work surface to about ¼ inch (0.5 cm) thick.

In a small bowl combine the sugar, cinnamon, salt and cornstarch. Add this mixture to the melted butter and mix to combine.

Spread the filling in a thin layer over the surface of the dough (the filling won’t seem like it’s a lot, see the video for tips and details). Tightly roll the dough into a jelly roll shape and cut out 6 cinnamon rolls and press them down lightly.

Note that it's important to cut out 6 rolls, because if you make them smaller or bigger the cooking time will be different. See the video at the end of this recipe for details of the technique for shaping the rolls and make sure to pinch the edges well.

Place the roll / rolls onto some parchment paper and place away from the center of the microwave and cook on high for 45 seconds.

Glaze the cinnamon roll and enjoy immediately.

Tips

Every microwave is different. Your timings may be different to mine. Be careful not to overcook the rolls.
